Watch this quick video! We will discuss in class!
We are in the Liturgical Season of Advent! This is when we prepare our hearts and minds for welcoming the baby Jesus, the savior of the world. We are definitely a world in need of saving! But Advent shows us that it all starts with us, with our hearts.
It calls us to ask ourselves: How do I welcome the stranger/refugee? How do I open my heart to those who may have no home? How do I respond to people who aren't clean or who smell unpleasant? What about those who speak a different language? These are some of the things that Mary and Joseph would have had working against them as they traveled the almost 100 miles to Bethlehem for the census that was required by King Herod. They would have walked several miles a day, Mary already quite pregnant, would have been close to your age. Can you imagine what that must be like? Mary must have been aching, exhausted, overwhelmed and terrified! How Joseph must have worried as he brought his young wife from one land to another, pregnant with God's Son?? There would have been so many dangers on the journey, awful heat by day and frigid cold by night, but they did what needed to be done. They didn't give up or give in to despair, they kept going. They relied on their faith in God the Father. They listened to the promptings of the Holy Spirit and they kept going. And they changed history. This is what the Holy Father calls you...the YOUTH of our church... to do!
He is calling as Jesus calls each of us to use the gifts that we have been given; the gifts that God gave you! Do NOT Be Afraid! Through the sessions provided online and the time we will spend together, I hope you will come to see how the Power of ONE person choosing to use their gifts can change the world. YOU can be that one person. That is what this is all about. Accepting and partnering with the Holy Spirit to follow the will of God in our lives. As St. Catherine of Siena once said, "If you are what you were meant to be, you would set the world on fire!" |
